Pool Marshalling

 Pool Marshal Duties
We are required to provide a Pool Marshal during our Thursday night pool sessions to oversee that all members are using the pool safely & that we maintain our contractual agreement with the pool management.
Pool Marshals should arrive in good time to be on hand & must remain within the pool area during the “wet” time, they should also be the last to leave before the pool staff close the building. As a guide, some of the prime duties of the Pool Marshal are listed below.
Members can enter the pool from 8.30pm until 9.30pm & we have to clear the building by 10.00pm.

Before members enter the pool:-
  • Ensure lane markers are in place to segregate octopush players, swimmers & divers/snorkelers
  •  Ensure throw lines are present at locations around the pool – provided by pool management
  • Pool Marshals should familiarise themselves with the location of pool safety equipment – throw lines, alarm buttons etc.
  • Open the store room & if necessary the kit cage

During pool time:-

  • Keep watch for members getting into difficulty & be prepared to raise alarm
  • Keep watch for lone divers
  • Monitor pool temperature & watch for members feeling cold
  • Make sure no area is getting too overcrowded, rearrange lane markers if necessary
  • Ensure octopush players keep clear of other pool users
  • Make sure all walkways & exit points are kept clear
  • Be on hand to assist members (e.g.with diving equipment) as required
  • Make sure that all pool users have cleared the water by 9.30pm

After the pool has been cleared:-

  • Check for any personal equipment that may have been left in the water or at the poolside & establish ownership
  • Ensure all club equipment has been put neatly back in the cage & that the cage is locked
  • Any equipment that belongs to the pool and has been used should be returned to its original location.
  • Make sure all members have cleared the building and that all equipment has been accounted for by 10.00pm
