Becoming an instructor

All our instructors are volunteers who give their time freely; they are only too pleased to help trainees & other divers to improve their skills. Teaching others how to dive is a great way to maintain your own personal skills too. All instructor training is carried out through the BS-AC Regional Coaching Scheme at a national level at locations throughout the country.

· Once you have become a Sports Diver, you are able to attend the Instructor Foundation Course (IFC); this will class you as an Assistant Diving Instructor (ADI).
· Before you can progress from this you will need to attain the Dive Leader grade. You are then able to attend the Open Water Instructor Course to become an Assistant Open Water Instructor. This is then followed by the Practical Instructors Exam (PIE) to become a Practical Instructor (PI).
· Alternatively, on taking & successfully passing the Theory Instructors Exam (TIE) you will become a Theory Instructor (TI).
· Completion of both PIE & TIE will qualify you as an Open Water Instructor (OWI)
· Thereafter, subsequent instructor grades can be achieved subject to attaining the Advance and First Class diver grades & on passing the relevant Advanced & National exams.
